President Barack Obama has announced his intent to nominate Cathy Zoi for Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the Department of Energy (DOE).

Getting Serious About Clean-Energy Stimulus
It turns out that 2008 was another record year for clean energy. According to Clean Edge's just-released Clean Energy Trends 2009 report, the three major clean-energy sectors -- solar photovoltaics (PV), wind power and biofuels -- kept up a blistering growth rate, increasing 53 percent from $75.8 billion in 2007 to $115.9 billion in revenues in 2008.

Green Bank Act of 2009 Introduced in US House
U.S. Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) this week introduced the Green Bank Act of 2009. If passed, the legislation would create the Green Bank as an independent, tax-exempt, wholly owned corporation of the United States. The Bank's mandate would be to provide a range of financing support to qualified renewable energy and energy efficiency projects within the territorial United States.

California Green Jobs Corps Training Program Gets Off the Ground
Following a meeting in Sacramento with U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis to discuss how federal economic stimulus money could help create jobs in California, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the launch of the California Green Corps. The goal of the California Green Corps is to place at-risk young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 into jobs in the state's emerging green economy, which is driven in large part by renewable energy.
